Intel® AES New Instructions (Intel® AES-NI)
Intel® Advanced Encryption Standard New Instructions (Intel® AES-NI)
Intel® New Instructions (Intel® AES-NI) provides faster, more affordable data protection and enhanced security
What is it?
Available in the Intel® Xeon® processor family and the 2nd generation Intel ® Core™ processor family, Intel® AES-NI is a new encryption instruction set that gives your customers faster, more affordable data protection and greater security. Composed of seven new instructions, it improves on the widely used Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm and makes encryption feasible in areas where previously it was not.
See how Intel® AES-NI better protects your customers’ business-critical data from malicious attacks.
Why Intel® AES New Instructions (Intel® AES-NI) matters
With recent advancements in cloud computing, businesses are sending more business-critical information outside the security of their traditional IT environments than ever before.
In keeping pace with such changes, Intel® AES-NI delivers new, affordable, and flexible encryption capabilities so you can continue to provide your customers with a variety of the latest security solutions.
Thankfully, AES is a widely deployed encryption standard when protecting network traffic, personal data, and corporate IT infrastructures, and Intel® AES-NI can be used to accelerate the AES encryption. This allows you to further help your customers establish flexible, robust, and affordable options to stay ahead of growing threats.
How it works
By implementing some intensive sub-steps of the AES algorithm into the hardware, Intel® AES-NI strengthens and accelerates execution of the AES application. That means you can help improve both the efficiency and security of your customers’ data centers.
The seven new instructions comprising Intel® AES-NI accelerate encryption and decryption and improve key generation and matrix manipulation, all while aiding in carry-less multiplication.
What does this mean for your customers? This minimizes application performance concerns inherent in traditional cryptographic processing and provides enhanced security by addressing recently discovered side-channel attacks on AES.
