One of Intel’s strategic objectives is to cultivate a workplace where employees can thrive on the job and in their communities. Our employees give generously of their time, skills, and technology expertise, donating more than 5 million hours of service over the past five years.

Intel employees are encouraged to take the initiative in volunteering, much as they are in their day-to-day work. At the corporate level, Intel supports employee volunteer projects through various Intel Involved programs.

Intel Involved programs

The Intel Involved program is active in more than 40 countries and available to all employees. The program is designed to encourage, support, and recognize employees who volunteer their time and talent to build strong communities that are socially inclusive, economically empowered, and environmentally sustainable.

Community engagement managers partner with nonprofits (NPO), nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), and schools to identify and develop volunteer opportunities that meet community needs. Intel employees can volunteer as individuals or in teams, pursuing a personal passion or joining colleagues for a team-building project that enables them to work with one another in new ways. Our employees volunteer on their own time and, with management support, during work hours.

Intel Involved Matching Grant Program

A key adjunct of the Intel Involved program is the Intel Involved Matching Grant Program, which awards cash grants to organizations based on the number of hours that Intel employees volunteer. The Intel Foundation, which funds these grants, has donated more than $26 million in matching volunteer grants to community organizations and schools around the world since 1995. All active employees worldwide are eligible to participate. All US-based 501(c)(3) public charities are eligible for matching grants and schools must be accredited nonprofit organizations. In Europe and the rest of the world, NGOs confirmed to have charitable equivalency as defined by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service are eligible.

Intel Involved Matching Seed Grant Program

The Intel Involved Matching Seed Grant program provides an opportunity for employees to receive up-front funding for volunteer projects that use their skills working with a school or non-profit/non-governmental organization (NPO/NGO).

Employees apply for funding from the Intel Foundation, describing the project and submitting a budget and project plan.

The Intel foundation usually funds from 10 to 15 projects in each grand cycle (twice a year).  Preference is given to projects that involve teams of employees, have a measurable community impact, and are innovative.

The Global Intel Involved Hero Award

The Global Intel Involved Hero Award is Intel's way to recognize extraordinary employee volunteers, who, through their commitment as well as innovative approach and ability to inspire others, have had a sustainable impact on a non-profit/non-governmental organization or school.

Intel Foundation makes a donation on behalf of the winner to the organisation of his/her choice.

Our projects

Intel employees are proud of the work they do inside the walls of Intel and outside in their communities. From designing and manufacturing the next generation of semiconductors to mentoring children, planting trees, cleaning up streams, and assisting teachers in remote corners of the world, Intel employees are working around the clock to make the world a better place.

Skill-based Volunteering

Intel employees volunteer, using their professional skills to benefit the community. As community needs have increased, so have employees’ interest in providing legal, human resources, marketing, and information technology (IT) expertise to help schools and organizations meet their challenges.

For example, one of our employees from Belgium applies his professional skills to help homeless people with legal questions. He shares his experience: “I am helping FEANTSA, which is the European Federation of National Organisations working with homeless people.  In a nutshell, we intend to bring a test case before the European Court of Justice for the interpretation of a provision in the Charter of Fundamental Rights that provides for the right to housing assistance.”

Hands-on Support

Whether a local school or a kindergarten needs to paint the walls or a local creek is heavily polluted, Intel employees are ready to help with the urgent needs of the community.

In 2012 59% of employees from the Swindon site donated over 7000 hours of volunteering work helping the emerging needs of communities.


Every year, we are inspired by the generosity of our employees, who, in

addition to volunteering their time, contribute to food, clothing, school

supply, and holiday gift drives, and donate millions of dollars to their communities.

In 2012, employees from Germany and Romania donated over 900 Christmas presents for kids from poor families in Romania.
